Revision surgery may be considered if your total knee surgery fails. Failure can be due to fracture, infection, mechanical loosening or malpositioning. During revision surgery, some or all of the parts of the original prosthesis are removed and replaced with new ones.
Revision surgery is longer and more complex that the original surgery. Specialized implants with taller, thicker posts or components with longer stems are utilized for fixation and stability. Further stabilization with metal augmentation may also be needed for stability.
